Description
LOCTITE® 406™ is designed for bonding of plastics and elastomeric materials where very fast fixturing is required. Instant adhesive LOCTITE 406 is designed especially for the fast bonding of plastics and rubbers. This product offers exceptionally low viscosity. When combined with LOCTITE primers for cyanoacrylates, it can also be use on difficult-to-bond plastics.

Cure Speed vs. Substrate
n
The rate of cure will depend on the substrate used. The table below shows the fixture time achieved on different materials at 22 °C / 50 % relative humidity. This is defined as the time to develop a shear strength of 0.1 N/mm² .
n
Fixture Time, seconds:
n
Steel (degreased) | 20 to 45 |
Aluminum (etched) | <5 |
Neoprene | <5 |
Rubber, nitrile | <5 |
ABS | <5 |
PVC | <5 |
Polycarbonate | 10 to 20 |
Phenolic | <5 |
n
Cure Speed vs. Bond Gap
n
The rate of cure will depend on the bondline gap. Thin bond lines result in high cure speeds, increasing the bond gap will decrease the rate of cure.
n
Cure Speed vs. Humidity
n
The rate of cure will depend on the ambient relative humidity. The best results are achieved when the relative humidity in the working environment is 40% to 60% at 22°C. Lower humidity leads to slower cure. Higher humidity accelerates it, but may impair the final strength of the bond.
